Call the waaaaahmbulance.

Damn, seems the last time I posted I was really emo too.

It seems like I let others affect how I see my abilities too much. They become the trees for which I can't see the forest. If I get excited about something I do, it seems like it only takes one person to think otherwise to wreck that momentum. My self-esteem plummets in the process, and my creative drive halts.

Why do I let one person's ambivalence bother me so? I accept people have different tastes, but could I be doing things so that people will see them and give me some sort of compliment? If so, that's completely the wrong motivation. I used to post my art as a beginner without apology. I never expected any comments, and if I got one it completely made my whole WEEK. Fast forward a decade or so. What happened? Did I just forget that there are people who don't like certain concepts, styles, or colors, and it usually has nothing to do with your ability level? Did I make the mistake of thinking my work was universal and worthy of some praise? Is it because I'm trying something new and I'm showing it to people who've been doing that style/medium for years and they're jaded unless it's super special?

I need to stop letting lack of praise stop me. Praise is not my artistic fuel; it shouldn't be anyone's.

People can be so petty.

This is my soundtrack for this evening (definitely nws):

In other news, I'm painting a G4 custom inspired by the Elliott Smith memorial wall tonight, since it's getting close to that terrible anniversary.

I dunno how I feel about this.

Dollyhair sells hair fragrances?

I'm halfway intrigued and halfway weirded out. I mean, I get it ... I had many dolls as a kid who had a certain fragrance. But would anyone who buys one of my customs actually like to have it smell like coffee, bananas, or "Christmas Eve"? That said, I'm going to order some and try it out. It could be an interesting detail.

Anyway, I was looking at the "flavors" list, and I couldn't help thinking there were things missing.  Who could live without their ponies smelling of the following classic scents:

  • Old Pennies
  • Cheap Shoe Store
  • Dry Erase Markers
  • Seagram's 7
  • Raccoon Saliva and Dirt
  • Nutritional Yeast
  • Shame
  • Cat Lady's House
  • Cleveland, Ohio
  • Glue Sticks
  • Wormy Dog
  • Loganberry
  • Terrarium

Blue skidoo'd, we can too!

I wonder if Shovel and Pail ever have to clean up Blue's poos.

There's no real point to this post.

Works in Progress

I like to make lists. My mother is a list-maker as well; she used to include such things as "take a shower" and "pick up girls from school" among everything else that she would honestly forget. I used to make fun of her for including things which really shouldn't be on a list (honestly, would she forget to pick us up if she didn't have it on a list?) but now that I'm a busy adult and a parent, I see why!

Now that I've related that anecdote, here's a handy list of current works in progress, so that both you and I know.

1. Suzanne (Weezer pony for Cathy) - hair finished! 90% done
2. Pride Pony - rehairing!
3. Sookie and Lafayette ponies - baits prepped, hair plugs being sorted (braids are HARD.)
4. What the Butler Saw - FBR done, ready for hair!
5. Saints pony - ready for FBR, which is going to be a biiiiiiitch :(
6. Geaux Tiger pony - ready for FBR
7. Kil-pony - ready for dyeing and symbol painting

I have a raffle for a free custom currently on MLP Arena, so expect that to be added to the list soonish.

Here's a blog post.

Hi! If you stumbled on to this right now I do apologize. If you're actually reading this, I'm not apologizing. This is clearly an establishment post, and the fact that you're wasting valuable seconds of your life on this post is a little bit sad.  So don't be sad - go somewhere interesting like this website or this fun little diversion. Come back when I have pictures of ponies.

Oh, you want pictures of ponies now?

Uhh...

no.
